Abstract

Background. Gynodioecy is a sexual dimorphism at which in a population there are plants with pistillate flowers produced on some plants and perfect flowers on other plants. The aim of our work is to study the frequency of two sexes for a number of populations of gynodioecious species O. vulgare.
Materials and methods. The material was collected from the wild of Moscow region in 2013–2017. Sex ratios of perfect and female plants in 18 populations were studied. The frequencies of two sexes were measured by means of the method of running lines.
Results. In gynodioecious populations O. vulgare the frequency of perfect plants was higher than the one of female plants (from 75,6 to 86,9 %). Perfect and female plants didn’t change sex between rowing seasons. Sex ratios in populations were stable between growing seasons.
Conclusions. Nuclear-cytoplasmic controls of sex expression, the influence of a phytocenotic environment together with the historical and real distribution of Origanum vulgare are factors of importance in the maintenance of the two types in the nature.
